The mountains are mute masters and make silent disciples
In the heart of the Dolomites, our hut will give you new emotions and colours
Rifugio Gardeccia is a comfortable alpine refuge surrounded by the Catinaccio group, the Vajolet towers and the “dirupi di Larsech. It has 43 beds divided into 20 sober alpin-style bedrooms that will allow you to spend a few days at high altitude. The kitchen, managed by Mario, will make you taste the best of the local cuisine, everything accompanied by a good beer or a glass of Trentino's wine, recommended by Marco.
On sunny days there is no way to get bored since we are surrounded by wonderful paths, climbing routes and “via ferrata” for all the tastes. There are also easy paths ideal for families with children, that can as well enjoy the lawns, the woods and the small stream nearby the refuge.
When it rains our mountain library will allow you to calmly read a book while waiting for the sun to come back . Anyway, don’t let the rain, or even the snow, scare you because mountain is beautiful even in bad weather.

A little bit of refuge’s history…
At the end of the 19^ century the first tourists and alpinists began to arrive in Gardeccia. Bepo de Medil and his father Giuseppe Desilvestro thought to build a little hut to host them.
The construction began in 1902 and the refuge was immediately appreciated and frequented by the people exploring the area. Most of them came from Germany, Austria and England.
Over the years a lot of famous people arrived at the refuge, as King Albert I from Belgium and Tita Piaz, known as “the Dolomites Devil”.
Since then, the refuge has always been run by Desilvestro family. After Bepo de Medil, it was managed by Adolfo Desilvestro, better known as Doro, the youngest Bepo’s child. He married Maria, who managed the kitchen for almost fifty years.
Doro and Maria had six children, Beppino, Ida, Marco, Lucia, Mario and Giovanna and all of them helped them in managing the hut until 2009.
Now the refuge is in the hands of Mario and Marco.
We can be proud of more of a century of family management.
